Dr. Jeff Almand was born in Eustis, Florida and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mississippi in 1987, where he was the recipient of the Taylor Medal for Liberal Arts. In 1991 he received his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Almand’s professional training in Orthopaedic surgery includes a completed Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Duke University Medical Center in 1997 and a Fellowship in total joint replacement in Indianapolis with the University of Indiana and Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital. He became Board Certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1999 and recertified in 2009. Dr. Almand has a special interest in computer-assisted, minimally invasive total joint replacement of the hip and knee. He has performed over 300 computer-assisted partial knee replacements a year which positions him in the top 1% in the United States for this procedure. He has published numerous articles concerning joint replacement and has an interest in research of long-term outcomes of hip and knee replacement, pain management, blood conservation, and minimally invasive surgical techniques which include the anterior and mini-posterior hip replacement as well as partial knee replacement. Dr. Almand performs all his surgical procedures using a robot and/or computer navigation for the most precise surgery creating the best results for patients. Dr. Almand also provides consultation in which he travels throughout the nation to teach other orthopedic surgeons how to perform partial knee replacements. Also, many orthopedic surgeons throughout the nation visit him in Jackson to learn how to perform partial knee replacements while operating with him. Notably, Dr. Almand, along with Drs. Pickering and Mehrle, pioneered one of the first 5 outpatient total joint replacement centers in the country and the very first center in the state of Mississippi. Dr. Almand is currently on the research and development team for the new ROSA (Robotic Operating Surgical Assistant) Zimmer/Biomet partial knee robotic platform.
